Tarak Ben Ammar

Tarak Ben Ammar: Born on June 1949 in Tunis and is best known as The "Sam Goldwyn of Tunis". Ben Ammar’s double career as a film tycoon and an invaluable behind-the-scenes dealmaker has made him one of the most influential media players in Europe. Unlike Schmuel ‘s humble background, Ben Ammar grew up in a prominent family with an affluent aunt: Wassila Bouguiba. He started Carthago Films outside Tunis in 1975. Although he has produced close to 50 films with directors such as Roman Polanski and Robert Redford, Ben Ammar has really excelled as a door-opener and adviser to four of the key media players operating in Europe. Fluent in English, French, Italian, and Arabic Ben Ammar cultivated key relationships in the Media circles and thanks to him, Berlusconi, Murdoch, Kirch, and Alwaleed are closely linked in numerous alliances and shareholdings. In 1995, Ben Ammar played key role in $1 billion investment in Berlusconi's television interests by Kirch, Saudi Prince Alwaleed, and others. He also advised Alwaleed on $400 million investment in Rupert Murdoch's News Corp. and in 1999 Ben Ammar arranged for Berlusconi, Alwaleed, and Lehman Brothers to invest $1.3 billion in KirchMedia and for Murdoch's BSkyB to invest $1.4 billion in Kirch-owned pay TV.
