The International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) is the World Championship Mathematics Competition for High School students. It suffice to note that so far five IMO medallists went on to win the Fields Medal (Nobel Prize in Mathematics) and another two IMO medallists went on to win the Nevanlinna Prize.

The first IMO was held in 1959 in Romania and the competition has been held annually since, except 1980. The list of participating countries has grown from 7 to over 80 from all over the world. Tunisia first took part of the IMO in XXXX in 19XX, but has not been a regular participant.

Highlights of Tunisia’s participation:

  • 1985: Sadok Kallel and XXX became the first to win a medal for Tunisia.

  • 1991: xxx earned the first Silver medal for Tunisia.

  • 1992: Nader Masmoudi became the first to earn a Gold medal for Tunisia.
